Join your favorite fusion dancers, teachers, and DJ's from across the Pacific NW and throughout the USA & abroad this May 19-21, 2017 on Whidbey Island for the biggest, newest, & baddest fusion dance festival ever to take place in the heart of the Puget Sound -- it's "Heart Sound Fusion" 2017 -- now in the making; soon for the taking; not to be missed! Mark your calendars, and get ready for registration to open in early March.
What it is is a full weekend of mind-bending music; fabulous dancing, schmoozing, & socializing; and the most opportunity for fun, games, & spontaneity that can be packed into 72 hours on a beautiful island setting in the middle of the Puget Sound.
Our hope is to pick up and fill in where MFX and the Denver Fusion Exchange have left off, planting the seeds for a new kind of festival that we plan to continue to build and grow for years to come. So come get away from it all and "put your heart where the Sound is", at Heart-Sound-Fusion" 2017 -- the one where it all begins!
The all-inclusive weekend package includes your room & board* (from Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch), all workshops, classes, & group activities**; and two fabulous dance parties on Friday & Saturday that will extend well into the wee hours of the morning, but keep you movin', groovin' & boppin' until long after that. On Sunday we all migrate to Seattle for the after-party at Om Fusion! What's not to love :)
Registration begins in early March. We're working on the details now and will keep you posted as more information becomes available. Meanwhile, join our Facebook Group Page, spread the word, tell everyone you know, and save the dates! It will be lovely to see you and yours there with all of us and ours :)
Also, feel free to contact us with any questions, requests, or brilliant thoughts you might have. We welcome your inspirations!
* The food is all home-cooked buffet-style, and the kitchen can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and most other allergy or dietary needs.
** And of course, you'll enjoy the best of sound & instruction from local and international teachers and DJ's during the workshops and dances

While this is our current agenda, class titles and/or descriptions may be tweaked, altered, or improved upon as we get closer to camp
WORKSHOP A (10am-12pm): “Kinetic Intimacy”, with Shanti
Kinetic Intimacy is an intimate dance language methodology. It's concepts allow refined communication between self and others, offering tools to drop deep into embodied conversation with authentic flow and expression. We will participate in some collaborative movement exercises and discussion that help us become more eloquent and articulate in voicing our desires and boundaries through the art and language of partner dance.
WORKSHOP B (1:15-2:30pm): The Art of “Fluid Fusion Switching”, with Jesse
A fluid moment-by-moment exchange between lead and follow is possible in every dance partnership if you can both be present in the same way. I've had some of my most connected and most technically sophisticated dances when my partner and I are in a sort of trance state, both simultaneously listening and speaking. In this class we are going to examine the state of mind necessary to achieve this high level of dance connection, develop finely-tuned listening and speaking techniques, and, as an added bonus, spend time practicing our non-dominant dance role.
WORKSHOP C (1:15-2:30pm): “How To Do More ‘Aah’, with Lessa”, by Lessa
If you’ve ever wanted to add that “Aah” factor to your dancing, this is the class that will take you there. Brilliant, insightful, profound. Men will weep, women will swoon. Not to be missed!
WORKSHOP D (2:45-4:00pm): "Hidden Hand Changes” & “Magic Illusions”, with Ari & Allysa
In this class, we’ll embellish our ability to play by learning to use “hidden hand changes”, “illusions”, “arm flips” and other such wonderful fusion wizardry which can be applied to almost any moment of partnered dance and can take you places you never dreamed of going. It’s definitely the kind of thing that will dramatically elevate both the level of fun & play between you and your partner and which can, at the same time, make anyone watching on the side go “oooh, ahhhh, & Yeowza!”
WORKSHOP E (2:45-4:00pm): “Bringing Back Kindergarten - A Musical Exploration”, with Nemo
Think different. Bored of that stale song/move? Breathe a whole new life into it. Push the boundaries of your dance by rediscovering your childlike creativity. Explore music through art and notation. In this class you’ll learn how to use your brain to interpret music diversely, then apply it to your body and your dance.
SPECIAL "HEART-SOUND FUSION VIDEO PROJECT" (6-8pm)
Join us as we create a unique NW Fusion Youtube Dance Video using the many landscapes of Camp Casey as our backdrop and you as the stars! This will be awesome :)
WORKSHOP F (8-9pm): “Takin’ the Confusion out of Waltz Fusion” , with Ari & Alyssa
The focus of this fun, all-inclusive group class will be to first introduce a few simple waltz concepts for those wanting to do some traditional waltzing steps, and then to immediately turn around and demonstrate how none of those are really all that necessary to dance “fusion” waltz. While it’s true that “fusion” waltz can borrow from most anything you know in standard waltz, it also adds on a world of free-form possibilities, syncopated steps, counter-balance rhythms, and many other combinations or styling elements you can harness from tango, swing, blues, ecstatic dance, contact improv, or virtually any other movement form. This simple, easy-to-follow class will help demystify the kinds of movements, improvisations, creativity, and flow that you can apply to a waltz song (or to a non-waltz one for that matter!).
CLICK HERE to see a video that shows the kind of free-styling fun you can get by adding fusion concepts to a more traditional waltz song. Enjoy!
WORKSHOP G (12pm-1am): “Midnight Micro” with Austin Hunt (in the Grotto-for-Getting-Better)
Take a break to explore the art of micro-fusion with Austin at midnight.
--------------------------- SUNDAY, April 21st ---------------------------WORKSHOP H (10:30am-12pm): “Flashy Fusion”, with Sarah & Chaz
Spice up your fusion dancing with some new dance moves to put into your dance toolbag. We'll give tips and tricks for specific moves as well as styling and rhythm tips. Since Fusion Dance is all about creativity, we'll have an exercise that will get you working with others to create your own flashy and dance moves to share with the other students.
WORKSHOP I (1:15-2:30pm): “How to dance the Tzoul so low”, with Tzoul
If my dancing was a book this class would be going over it’s table of contents. I aim to give my Writer’s Method. Reveal the plot in your dance by being diverse in your positioning. Let the exploration of all sides of your partner help you set the stage for a more complete drama. Attitude is paramount in a body to body conversation, increase your vocabulary and practice other dialects. This is a high level class for all levels of experience. Definitely a moves class saturated in story telling technique.
WORKSHOP J (1:15-2:30pm): "Play Full Senses", with Matia
Going under blindfold in dance silences the "loudest" sense to allow others a chance to awaken, step up and offer their gifts. I've noticed improved balance, subtle listening, clarity of lead, rooted movement and enhanced connection. Join me if you're a curious & willing explorer ready to play in unknown territories & break free of routine, within a safely held container.
WORKSHOP K (2:45-3:45pm): The Art of "Triple Stealing"; PLUS Closing Ceremony & Surprise Group Activity with the Heart Sound Teaching Staff.
Get ready to have some fun and learn some unique new ways to dance as a collective! The perfect way to bring the weekend to a close before heading back to Seattle for our after-party at Om Fusion.
